Carpal Tunnel

The carpal tunnel is a narrow passage through the wrist that is made up of the bones of the wrist on one side and a large ligament of the wrist (transverse ligament) on the other side.

The carpal tunnel is a narrow passage through the wrist that is made up of the bones of the wrist on one side and a large ligament of the wrist (transverse ligament) on the other side. The median nerve and several tendons run through the tunnel. When this nerve is compressed it can cause symptoms.

Symptoms Include

  • Pain in wrist and hand
  • Numbness
  • Pins and Needles
  • Weakness
  • Can cause Headaches

Causes

  • Fall onto the hand
  • Repetitive activities (especially computer use)
  • Nerve impingement at the neck
  • Arthritis
  • Misalligned wrist bones
